Tanzanite Watches
Tanzanite is a stunning blue/purple gemstone often used to make high-end jewelry. Its fragile nature means that it is not typically used in pieces intended for active use. As a result, finding Tanzanite jewelry and Tanzanite watches can be difficult.
About Tanzanite
Tanzanite is named for the place of its discovery — Tanzania. It was first discovered there more than forty years ago, in 1967. Its beauty is universally renowned. In its natural state, it appears with a pale blue, purple or even green tint. After being cut and heat-treated, the stones are sold as finished gems with deep purple and blue casts.
In 2002, Tanzanite was recognized by the American Gem Trade Association as the official birthstone for December, replacing Blue Topaz. As a result, prices for raw Tanzanite have doubled or tripled to several hundred dollars for a single carat. Many retailers, however, have been slow to recognize this new birthstone distinction, preferring to stick with the traditional Topaz stone.
As prices have risen, interest in lab-created stones has increased as well. Tanzanique is the most popular variant and can be found in many jewelry pieces.
Tanzanite Watches
Since Tanzanite is typically reserved for pieces that are not intended for heavy wear and tear, it is uncommon to find a mass-market Tanzanite watch. These watches typically accent the Tanzanite with other stones, or guard them by embedding them in a protective setting. There are, however, a few available and we’ve attempted to feature them here. Let us know if you find more — we’ll gladly write about any watch that features this beautiful stone.
